Election 2009

Is AP heading for coalition governments?

N CHANDRABABU NAIDUKCRN. Chandra Babu Naidu won the 1999 elections in alliance with BJP by sharing seats for both Assembly and Parliament. He lost 2004 elections to congress. The congress won the 2004 elections by having alliance with TRS and communist parties for both assembly as well as parliament elections. TRS joined the congress government both at the centre and at state.

Later TRS ministers resigned from both state and central governments. The left parties have withdrawn their support at the centre on the issue of nuclear agreement.

TDP has got differences with BJP. TDP is planning a third front at the centre in coalition with Left parties, TRS, BSP and other parties that are anti congress and secular. Now the TDP with the intention of coming back to power and to have alliance with TRS has announced its support for separate state hood to telangana.

mega star chiranjeeviYSRMean time Chiranjeevi has formed his own party with name prajarajyam. It is trying woo the communist parties to have alliance. Apart from these parties there have come up so many parties in the state like MIM, Navatengana Prajaparty, Lok Satta, Talli Telangana, Mana Party. Apart from these small regional parties the national parties like BJP , BSP and SP are planning to field their candidates in the coming elections. With all these developments the chances of single party getting absolute majority in the coming elections seem to bleak. This may result in hung in the assembly. This situation may bring in coalition government in the state. Either the Prajarajyam will share the power with TDP and TRS. The congress may seek the support of prajarajyam to form the government if it does not get absolute majority. This may result in formation of coalition government in AP.
