Lord Rama at Bhadrachalam

badhrachalamThe Temple for lord Rama was built on the banks of river Godavari at Bhadrachalam in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh by one of his devotees Ramadasu during 17th century. Ramadasu was the Tahasildar for that area and Tanisha was treasurer during Nizam rule. . It is nearly 40 kilometers from Kothagudem the nearest railway station to reach Bhadrachalam. It is nearly 160 km from Rajahmundry 200 km from Vijayawada and 310 km from Hyderabad. One has to travel till Kothagudem by rail and from Kothagudem there are buses run by APSRTC every half an hour to Bhadrachalam. From Rajahmundry one can reach Bhadrachalam by a motorized boat through river Godavari via Papikondalu.

Accommodation at Bhadrachalam: One can stay in the chowltries of different communities or the Andhra Pradesh tourism Development Corporation?s Punnami Hotels. The devastanam offers the rooms at much cheaper prices.

Temple timings: The temple is open from 4-30 am in the morning till 1-00 pm. The temple is closed between 1am to 3pm. It again opens from 3pm to 9 pm.

One can see the silver chariot at the temple. The museum exhibits the ornaments donated by Ramadasu to Sita, Rama and Laxmana. The other places of interest at Bhadrachalam are Jataayu Paaka, Dummugudem, Gundala and Sriramagiri.

Parnasala is around 35 km from Bhadrachalam. Rama has made his house here during his vanavasam. Rama stayed with Sita and Laxmana here. This is the place from where Ravana has kidnapped Sita Devi.
